Mental health services support people experiencing mental distress, mental health issues, and wellbeing challenges across the lifespan.

Services range from early intervention and primary care to specialist and inpatient care.

Often the first point of contact for mental health support is via:

  • General Practitioners (GPs)

  • Practice nurses

  • Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs)

  • Health coaches

  • Counselling services

Specialist services may be delivered via:

  • Community Mental Health Teams

  • Psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists

  • Kaupapa Māori Mental Health Services

Support may include:

  • Community-based support workers

  • Peer support services

  • Day programmes and group therapy

  • Residential and supported living services

  • Employment and education support

  • Alcohol and other drug (AOD) services
