Work and Income can help with benefits and payments for disabled people and carers for living expenses, disability allowances, urgent or unexpected costs.

For a person with a health condition or disability there are a number of ways Work and Income can help.

Both disabled people and their carer’s may be eligible for supports. For the most up to date supports we recommend you go directly to www.workandincome.govt.nz.

Disability Connect can assist you in navigating the supports offered by Work and Income. We will support you and your family to understand what is available.

Here is a list of some of the types of support that may be available specifically related to disability:

Community Services Card

If a person you’re caring for would need hospital, rest home or residential care without you, Work and Income may be able to help.

Supported Living PaymentYou may be able to get a Supported Living Payment if you’re caring for a person at home who would otherwise need hospital-level, rest home or residential care (or the equivalent). This includes caring for your own child but not your partner.

WINZ will need to see a medical certificate for the person you’re caring for. It needs to be completed by their health practitioner.
